What does the Fire Marshal for Care Homes course cover?

Care homes present some of the toughest fire safety challenges in any workplace. Many residents cannot evacuate without help, so the people who take charge in an emergency need more than a basic awareness session. This online fire marshal training for care homes prepares your nominated staff for that responsibility, with content built around care settings rather than a generic office.

The course covers 16 modules with around 220 minutes of video. It begins with the fundamentals: how fires start and spread, the common causes and the safety features already built into your building. From there it moves into the marshal role itself, covering current fire safety legislation, fire risk assessment, preventative measures, what to do on discovering a fire, running drills and evacuations, and choosing and using the correct extinguisher.

Each module ends with a short test, and learners can log in and out as often as they like, so training fits around shifts. The course is CPD approved and also holds approvals from IIRSM and Gatehouse Awards, and every learner receives a certificate on completion for your training records.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the Fire Marshal for Care Homes course take?

There is around 220 minutes of video content across 16 modules. You do not have to finish it in one sitting. Learners can log out and pick up where they left off, which works well around care shifts.

Is the course approved?

Yes. This is a CPD approved course that also holds approvals from IIRSM and Gatehouse Awards, so the training carries recognised weight when you need to evidence it.

Do care homes legally need fire marshals?

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires workplaces to have enough trained people to deal with a fire emergency. In a care home, where many residents need help to evacuate, trained marshals on every shift are a practical necessity as well as a legal one.

How does the assessment work?

Each module ends with a short test. The pass mark is 70% for most modules, and the final module on using a fire extinguisher requires full marks. Once everything is passed, the certificate is issued.

How is this different from the standard Fire Marshal course?

It covers the same core fire marshal content, then adds material written specifically for care home settings, so the training reflects the residents, buildings and risks your staff actually deal with.

Can I enrol several staff members at once?

Yes. Tell us how many places you need and we will set your team up with individual logins, so each learner works through the course in their own time and earns their own certificate.
