What does the Workplace Health and Safety course cover?

Every business needs its people to understand the basics of health and safety, whatever the sector. This online workplace health and safety training course covers the ground that applies almost everywhere, from offices and shops to workshops and factories, which makes it a natural part of any induction programme.

The course opens with what health and safety actually means and the legislation behind it, including the concept of corporate manslaughter and real case studies that show what happens when things go wrong. It then looks at the most common causes of workplace accidents and the responsibilities held by employers and employees alike. Later modules cover the everyday risk areas most staff will meet at some point: fire, electricity, display screen equipment, manual handling, COSHH, PPE and stress. The course closes with an introduction to risk assessment and the actions to take if an emergency occurs.

Seven modules take around 45 minutes in total, each with a short test and a 70 percent pass mark, and every learner receives a downloadable certificate on completion. The course is IOSH, IIRSM and CPD approved. Pair it with training on the specific hazards of each role, DSE for desk staff or COSHH for anyone handling chemicals, and you have a solid foundation for the whole team.
