What does the Basic Fire Safety Awareness course cover?
Every UK workplace needs staff who understand fire, because the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 puts a duty on employers to train all employees in fire awareness, whatever the size of the business. This online fire safety awareness course gives your team that grounding in about an hour, without pulling anyone away from work for a full day.
The training starts with how fire behaves, covering the chemistry of fire and the four ways it spreads, then moves through the most common causes of workplace fires and the simple habits that stop them starting. Your staff will also learn to spot the safety features built into your building, from alarm points to protected escape routes, and understand what each one is there to do.
The final modules deal with the moments that matter most. Learners find out what to do if they discover a fire, why smoke is so dangerous, and how the main types of fire extinguisher differ, so nobody is left guessing in an emergency. Six short video modules each end with a quick test with a 70 percent pass mark, and a certificate is issued on completion. The course is CPD and IOSH approved, and also carries recognition from the IFE, IIRSM, Gatehouse Awards and the Institute of Hospitality.

How long does the course take?
There is around 60 minutes of video content across six modules. It is all online and self paced, so learners can pause and pick up where they left off.
Is fire safety training a legal requirement?
Yes. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires employers to provide adequate fire awareness training for all staff, whatever the size of the workplace. This course is a straightforward way to meet that duty.
Is the course approved?
The course is CPD and IOSH approved, and it also carries approval from the IFE, IIRSM, Gatehouse Awards and the Institute of Hospitality.
How is the course assessed?
Each module ends with a short test and the pass mark is 70 percent. Once every module is passed, the course is complete.
Do learners receive a certificate?
Yes. Every learner is certificated on completion, which gives you a clear training record for each member of staff.
Can I enrol my whole team?

How these courses are delivered
We work in partnership with VideoTile Learning to deliver online IOSH Approved Working Safely and Managing Safely. The courses are delivered via their platform. As an agent for these courses we are not directly approved by or associated with IOSH.
IATP, CPD, IIRSM, IFE, ILM and IOSH approved courses are owned and delivered by VideoTile Learning Ltd and are distributed under licence.
Laser, ETA and IOSH Qualifications are examined via VideoTile Learning Ltd.
Refunds and cancellation
- Courses are supplied by VideoTile Learning Ltd. Your purchase is with them, and their terms and refund policy apply to it.
- An unused licence can be removed from an account within 14 days of being added, providing the account has not been accessed by the candidate or business. Beyond 14 days the system will restrict this activity.
- No refund is granted where there is reason to believe the learner has viewed any of the content they purchased.
- Consumers have a 7 day cooling off period in which to cancel and receive a refund, with no reason needed. These regulations do not govern contracts between businesses.
- VideoTile Learning Ltd reserves the right to charge a handling fee of 15 percent of the original fee. Refunds are paid within 30 days of cancellation.
