What does the Hot Works course cover?
Hot works training matters because the risks are unforgiving. Welding, grinding, brazing and any task involving open flames or tools that produce heat and sparks can start a fire long after the job itself is finished, and a stray spark in the wrong place can put an entire building at risk. This short online course gives your workers a clear grounding in what hot work involves and how to keep it under control.
Across four learning modules and a final exam, the course explains exactly what counts as hot work, the hazards that come with it and the practical controls that keep the workplace safer while the work is under way. It finishes with permits to work: why they exist, what they cover and how to use them properly, so every hot work task is planned, authorised and checked before anyone strikes an arc or lights a torch.
The whole course takes around 30 minutes and can be completed in one sitting or in stages to suit the working day. It is delivered entirely online with a certificate issued on completion, giving you a quick, practical way to cover this topic and a dated record of training for every worker who passes.

How long does the Hot Works course take?

Is this course approved?
This is an online training course with a certificate issued on completion rather than a formal qualification. The certificate gives you a clear, dated record that each worker has been trained on hot work hazards and controls.
Who needs hot works training?
Anyone whose job involves open flames, sparks or the application of heat with tools, such as welding, grinding, brazing or torch work, along with the supervisors and managers who authorise those jobs.
How does the assessment work?
The course ends with a final exam and the pass mark is 70%. Once you pass, your certificate is ready to download straight away.
What is a permit to work and does the course cover it?
A permit to work is a formal check that a hot work task has been planned, authorised and made safe before it begins. The course dedicates a full module to permits, including why they are used and how to use them properly.
Can I train my whole team?
Yes. We can set up individual logins for as many workers as you need, and each person receives their own certificate on completion.

How these courses are delivered
We work in partnership with VideoTile Learning to deliver online IOSH Approved Working Safely and Managing Safely. The courses are delivered via their platform. As an agent for these courses we are not directly approved by or associated with IOSH.
IATP, CPD, IIRSM, IFE, ILM and IOSH approved courses are owned and delivered by VideoTile Learning Ltd and are distributed under licence.
Laser, ETA and IOSH Qualifications are examined via VideoTile Learning Ltd.
Refunds and cancellation
- Courses are supplied by VideoTile Learning Ltd. Your purchase is with them, and their terms and refund policy apply to it.
- An unused licence can be removed from an account within 14 days of being added, providing the account has not been accessed by the candidate or business. Beyond 14 days the system will restrict this activity.
- No refund is granted where there is reason to believe the learner has viewed any of the content they purchased.
- Consumers have a 7 day cooling off period in which to cancel and receive a refund, with no reason needed. These regulations do not govern contracts between businesses.
- VideoTile Learning Ltd reserves the right to charge a handling fee of 15 percent of the original fee. Refunds are paid within 30 days of cancellation.
