What does the Fire Extinguisher course cover?
Most workplaces have fire extinguishers on the wall, yet very few people could say with confidence which one to grab for an electrical fire, or whether they should be fighting the fire at all. This online fire extinguisher training course closes that gap in around 25 minutes.
The first module introduces the different types of fire extinguisher, what each one contains and the kinds of fire each is designed to tackle. The second covers pre-engagement action, meaning the checks and decisions to make before you even think about fighting a fire, because knowing when to walk away is just as important as knowing how to aim. The final module shows how to use an extinguisher correctly, and because this knowledge has to be exactly right, the pass mark for that module is 100 percent. The two earlier modules carry a 70 percent pass mark.
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, employers must provide staff with adequate fire training, and extinguisher awareness is a natural part of that. The course is CPD and IOSH approved, with recognition from IIRSM, Gatehouse Awards and the Institute of Hospitality, and every learner receives a certificate on completion. It works well on its own or alongside our basic fire safety awareness and fire marshal courses.

How long does the course take?

Why is the pass mark 100 percent on the final module?
The final module covers actually using a fire extinguisher, and there is no room for half knowledge in that moment. Learners must answer every question correctly to pass it. The other modules have a 70 percent pass mark.
Does this course teach people to fight fires?
It teaches when tackling a small fire is appropriate and how to use an extinguisher correctly if it is. Just as importantly, it teaches when the right decision is to leave the building and raise the alarm.
Do learners get a certificate?
Yes, every learner is certificated on completion, giving you evidence of training for your fire safety records.

How these courses are delivered
We work in partnership with VideoTile Learning to deliver online IOSH Approved Working Safely and Managing Safely. The courses are delivered via their platform. As an agent for these courses we are not directly approved by or associated with IOSH.
IATP, CPD, IIRSM, IFE, ILM and IOSH approved courses are owned and delivered by VideoTile Learning Ltd and are distributed under licence.
Laser, ETA and IOSH Qualifications are examined via VideoTile Learning Ltd.
Refunds and cancellation
- Courses are supplied by VideoTile Learning Ltd. Your purchase is with them, and their terms and refund policy apply to it.
- An unused licence can be removed from an account within 14 days of being added, providing the account has not been accessed by the candidate or business. Beyond 14 days the system will restrict this activity.
- No refund is granted where there is reason to believe the learner has viewed any of the content they purchased.
- Consumers have a 7 day cooling off period in which to cancel and receive a refund, with no reason needed. These regulations do not govern contracts between businesses.
- VideoTile Learning Ltd reserves the right to charge a handling fee of 15 percent of the original fee. Refunds are paid within 30 days of cancellation.
